Brow Lift

What is a Brow Lift?

A forehead lift or "brow lift" is a procedure that restores a more youthful, refreshed look to the area above the eyes. The procedure corrects drooping brows and improves the horizontal lines and furrows that can make a person appear inadvertently angry, sad or tired.  In a forehead lift, the muscles and tissues that cause the furrowing or drooping are removed or altered to smooth the forehead, raise the eyebrows and minimize frown lines.

The Surgical Procedure

Dr Mooney will help you decide which surgical approach will best achieve your cosmetic goals: the classic "open" method, or the endoscopic forehead lift.  Other procedures may be combined with eyelid and brow surgery to enhance results. The most commonly associated procedures are facelifts and blepharoplasty (eye lid surgery).

Method

The brow lift procedure involves re-draping the forehead skin to smooth down any wrinkles, lifting the upper eyelids and then minimising frown lines.  The procedure is performed by making small incisions in the hair above your forehead.  The muscles between the eyebrows are then partially removed which improves the appearance of frown wrinkles.  The brows are also elevated: which improves the overall eye appearance by minimising dropping eyelids.

What to expect after surgery

Following surgery, some patients may experience slight discomfort and numbness around the incision points. This pain can be easily managed with prescription medication. Patients who are prone to headaches may be treated with an additional longer-acting local anaesthesia during surgery as a preventive measure.  Dr Mooney will be able to discuss your options in more detail if you feel you are in this category.

Most of the visible signs of surgery should fade completely within about three weeks.  Any minor swelling and bruising that appears can comfortably be concealed with special camouflage makeup.  The information available about this procedure is extensive. The best method of determining your personal options is to schedule a personal consultation with Dr Mooney - he will be able to answer specific questions related to your situation.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
