Cheek Implants

cheek augmentation

What are cheek implants?

Cheek implants provide new facial contours and dimensions to bring facial features into better balance. This surgery can enhance facial contours and brings balance to the facial features. Cheek implants can also used to correct facial asymmetries and congenital defects. The aging face often loses fullness in the cheeks, and this hollowness can create an impression of aging, and tiredness around the eyes.

The Surgical Procedure

Incisions are made inside the upper lip, near the gums and inside the cheeks. The implant is then inserted through these incisions into a pocket created in the tissue.  The implants are placed on or below the cheekbones, and are often fixed with miniature titanium screws. The incisions are then closed with sutures that are eventually absorbed into the body harmlessly.  When cheek implant surgery is performed in conjunction with other facial procedures, the implants may be inserted through the incisions used for that procedure.

What to expect after surgery

This procedure is generally performed on an inpatient basis, with postoperative monitoring usually lasting less than 24 hours.  An overnight stay is sometimes necessary when cheek implant surgery is performed in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures. There is minimal post operative pain and the results can be subtle yet dramatically enhance a patients overall look.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
